Both the Rotary Clubs of Nunawading and Box Hill Central were well represented at the Whitehorse Business Group - Excellence in Business Awards special event held in the newly opened "The Round" in the Whitehorse Council precinct in Nunawading. Both clubs had tables at the event and each sponsored several of the awards. Along with members of each club were Assistant Governors Olive Aumann, from BHC and one of the judges, and Shia Smart, and DGE Colin Byron.
A bonus was to enjoy the MC fopr the evening, Anthony Lehmann (Lemo) who plays Jim on the ABC comedy, Utopia.
It was my pleasure to attend and my congratulations to both clubs for supporting the awards and gaining Rotary this exposure. Read on for reports from both clubs and some pics.
Reports from both clubs:
Nunawading: The Rotary Club of Nunawading were delighted to attend the Whitehorse Business Group - Excellence in Business Awards event. We sponsored the Community Group Awards - Excellence in Sustainability, Excellence in Innovation and overall winner...congratulations to The Eastern Emergency Relief Network for winning Sustainability and Innovation and to Rebecca Jane Foundation as the overall winner.
The Whitehorse Business Group awards were held on 27 October at The Round, the newly opened facility behind the Whitehorse Council office building.
A total of 270 people were in attendance with 27 tables. The awards have been in existence since 2001.
Nunawading Rotary had a table and were very pleased to have DG Ian Ballantine on our table and have also been an award category sponsor for many years.
This year our club was called to present the three awards in the Community Groups category.
The club has had a very close association with the Eastern Emergency Relief Network [EERN].
Over the years Nunawading Rotary has had members who have held the President and Secretary of EERN.
Nunawading RC President Ian Evans presents EERN President John Pullen with the Innovation Award in the Community Group category
EERN members, President John Pullen, Secretary Gabby Knaepple [also PP Nunawading Rotary] and Vice President David Bellette proudly show the two awards they won in the Community Group category.
Box Hill Central: On Friday night last the Whitehorse Business Group (WBG) Gala Awards night was held. Thanks to Wendy Zhang, our Vocational Chair, for liaising with WBG and organising a table for RCBHC members to represent the club at this very special event. District Governor Elect Colin Byron attended as RCBHC’s special guest. Past President Brian McPhail and Assistant Governor Olive Aumann served as judges for a number of awards. Other members on our table were Liz Stinson and her partner Liz Hooper, Robyn Stokes, Brian and Sue McPhail, Wendy Zhang, Olive and myself. The event was hosted by Anthony “Lehmo” Lehmann (best known for his role in ABC TV’s “Utopia”) and it was generally agreed that he turned an otherwise long night into a very entertaining one. The venue for the night was the recently opened “The Round” and this was the first time that the upstairs function centre was used. As sponsor of an award category RCBHC was well featured on the night. It was a fun night and our congratulations go to all the worthy award recipients.
