Dear Rotarians of District 9810,

To those of you who have joined us in the Magpie Nest Rental Subsidy Project, we thank you.

We are pleased to report that we have been successful in securing 5 Rental Properties in Monash, which are providing security and ultimately with our assistance, independence for at least 15 homeless people.

To those who have not yet joined this project, we provide some details of this project, which is a partnership between Collingwood Football Club and the Salvation Army. They provide rental accommodation and mentoring to homeless people, with our assistance, for a period of up to 2 years to prepare them for independent living. They have 50 existing properties and have plans to increase this to 100 over the next 12 months.

The aims of the Rotary Club of Waverley’s Homeless Project are,

  • to assist in finding further suitable rental properties, and
  • to provide a subsidy of 10% of the rental.

The more clubs we have involved in the project the more housing subsidies we can provide. Rentals are in short supply with less than 4% vacancy rates in most areas of Melbourne, therefore we not only ask you to help us with the rental subsidy, but to let us know of properties which could be available for rent. The preference is to have 3 BR homes within walking distance to public transport, costing between $450 and $500 pw.

To hear more about our project, we invite you to attend a lunch meeting of the Rotary Club of Waverley.
