JUNE IS ROTARY FELLOWSHIP MONTH

Rotary Fellowships are Rotarian connected international groups that share a common passion. Fellowships are a fun way of making friends around the world, exploring a hobby or profession and enhancing the Rotary experience.

In 1947, a group of Rotarian boating enthusiasts began flying the Rotary flag from their crafts, calling themselves the International Yachting Fellowship of Rotarians. They are now the longest continuous Fellowship in existence and while their scope has changed over the years, the purpose is still to unite Rotarians in friendship and provide venues and accessories for enjoying their favourite recreational or professional activities.

The Victoria and Gippsland Lakes Fleets form part of Area 3 of the International Yachting Fellowship covering Asia, Australia, New Zealand, South and Western Pacific geographic areas where some international events are held. Three new Fleets have been chartered in the last three months including Taiwan.  Both Victorian Fleets are on the lookout for new members and a Squadron is being started in Geelong.  Watch this space as efforts are being made to restart the Tasmanian Fleet in the near future.

IYFR members need only have an active interest in boating be it from kayak to large yacht/motor boats. Although not needing to be boat owners a fleet with some boats adds considerably to fellowship, fun, flexibility of water outings and activities for members. Some Asian Fleets concentrate on improving their waterways by removing plastic and other wastes.

Rotarians, family members, Rotaractors and Rotary program participants interested in becoming a member of either of these Fleets should forward a completed (attached) membership application to the Victoria Fleet Commodore: Linda Carr (linjencarr@gmail.com) or Fleet Secretary/Treasurer: Barbara Chapman (barbara@wcinnovations.com.au)
