Hello again my fellow Rotarians,
Two more of the Clubs in our District have agreed to merge. They are the Rotary Clubs of Glen Waverley and Monash. The merger is intended to completed by July 1st and the new Club will be known as The Rotary Club of Monash-Glen Waverley. My congratulations to the Preseidents of both Clubs, Chris George and Sandra Pyke and their respective Boards and membership along with Assistant Governor, Helen Nodrum. The clubs are already having a common weekly Monday meeting and will have a combined Changeover Dinner on 24th June. The new President of the combined club will be Don Kerley.

I promise this will be the last time I encourage you attend either or both of the special events we have planned, jointly with Districts 9820 and 9800, in early June (Sunday 2nd and Monday 3rd) featuring the attendance of International President Gordon McInally and Heather. As you know they have very kindly agreed to detour via Victoria on their way back to the US from the Rotary International Convention in Singapore. Refer to stories below or refer to the District website for booking links to both events. On that note, can members who indicated they would be attending and haven't yet booked, please do so?

As we draw towards the end of the Rotary year, plans for Club Changeovers are well underway. If you would like to invite any members of the G Train, namely District Governor Elect Colin Byron, District Governor Nominee Peter Behm, District Governor Nominee Designate Emma Clark or even myself, and you haven't already done so, please get them out as soon as possible as our "cards" are filling fast. Where there are clashes we will work together to try to ensure there can be at least one of us in attendance. Helen and I are looking forward to joining many of you at your Changeovers.

You will see the report below on the chartering of the Interact Club at Ringwood Secondary College under the sponsorship of the Rotary Club of Maroondah. Great story! Well this week, I learnt that the Rotary Club of Manningham City has just signed off on the formation of their third Interact Club, this one being at Templestowe College. Well done to the team at Mannigham City, in particlular David Rosenwax.

Lunch with RI President Gordon McInally update

Sunday June 2nd at RACV Club, Cape Schank.

Lunch with Gordon and Heather update

There is still time to book for this event. I am please to report that Rotaractors from both Districts will be attending along with many Club members. There are a few Clubs even taking entire tables.
Why not get a group from your Club together and join us at Cape Schanck? Tables are of only 8 people.
If you are from a Club who has indicated that you will fill a table, please ensure that everyone has booked using the link below.
A reminder of the lunch......

President Gordon has been a strident advocate in promoting Mental Health initiatives that help communities and individuals rebuild their resilience. Prioritising mental health in his year of office is an imperative, “I know what it's like to see someone close to me suffer in silence. I have also witnessed the power of personal connections, the value of discussing emotional and mental well-being, and the lifesaving impact of preventive care and treatment”.
Professor Pat McGorry, a Rotarian, will host the lunch and inform us about the face of mental health here in Australia. Early intervention of Mental Health as the cornerstone of building community and individual resilience.

We want our Rotary clubs to provide the connection to this fantastic opportunity to hear this powerful message.
Book a table, invite your local business owners and youth networks. Sponsor your Rotaractors, Interactors and school contacts.

Prices: $95 pp incl 2 course lunch. $1,200 per table of 8 with table naming rights

Glen Waverley Multi Cultural Day

MULTICULTURAL   INCLUSION DAY -  MT WAVERLEY YOUTH CENTRE  SUNDAY – 12th MAY

Background
The concept of a Multicultural Inclusion Day (MID) and the drive to make it happen came from one of our newer members (and our PN) Raj Susarla. Raj has extensive contacts within the local Indian community. Raj had also had experience elsewhere of a similar event.
From the outset the club recognised the value of this initiative in both celebrating the diversity we have in the Monash community, engaging with our broader community and in publicising our club and Rotary in general. It matched perfectly with Rotary’s DEI objective. The focus was always on community engagement and ethnic celebration, not fundraising. Admission would be free.
We wanted to engage as many diverse groups in Monash as possible and also get Monash Council support. Early contact was made with the council Cultural Diversity Community Development Officer and invitations issued to the Mayor, councillors and local politicians.

ANZAC Events 2024
A number of Clubs, once again organised/sponsored ANZAC Day events. Many more, if not all Clubs, represented Rotary at local community services.
Featured here are just four such events, supported by the Rotary Clubs of Boronia, Manningham City, Noble Park Dingley and Emerald and District.
These are great opportunities to raise the profile of our Clubs in the Community and foster collaboration with other groups within our communities.
My congratulations to all Clubs in the District who participated in ANZAC day events.

Vietnam Museum and Springvale City
As you may recall, member of Sprinvale City Loc Lam was awarded an OAM earlier this year for his services to the community and especially to the Vietnamese community. Refer story here.
Loc invited his Rotary friends along with friends from other areas of the community along with family to an afternoon of celebration at his home in Aspendale.

Not only was the event in honour of his award but it was also intended to draw attention to one of his areas of focus, namely the Vietnamese Museum currently in the planning stage.

Loc is passionate about this project and is one of it's Directors. Expect to hear more about this project as the Springvale City Club is going to support Loc and I'm sure will be seeking support from other Clubs in the District.

Rotary Foundation Giving

What is the best way to make a year-end gift to The Rotary Foundation?

As we approach the end of the Rotary year, and the tax year, it is a great time to consider making a contribution to The Rotary Foundation.
Remember, The Rotary Foundation should be considered our "charity of choice".

Any personal contribution will be recorded as a part of the contribution by your Club as well as against yourself, as a Rotarian. In addition it is fully tax deductible.

Simply log into your MyRotary and click on Donate. https://my.rotary.org/en/donate

A full and detailed sheet of instructions is available here.

If you wish to make a contribution to EndPolio, and have your donation tagged as DG Partner Project, then go here. A reminder that your donation will still go against your club and yourself and be tax deductable.

Professor Arnold Dix

Prof Arnold Dix on Australian Story

For those who attended our District 9810 Conference in Warrnambool you will recall that one of our more memorable speakers was Professor Arnold Dix.

Whilst we compensated Arnold for journeying to Warrnambool, he most generously did not seek any fee for speaking. As he is a resident of Monbulk he simply requested that perhaps a contribution could be made to a local project on his behalf.
And this is what we've done. The Rotary Club of Monbulk will work with Arnold using funds provided by the District on a local project, hopefully establishing a long term collaboration with Arnold.

Arnold has a website at arnolddix.com

He was featured on Australian Story on April 15. Click on image below to watch.
