The Rotary Clubs of Ferntree Gully and Rowville-Lysterfield run a social inclusion program for 12–18-year-olds in Knox or who go to school, work, volunteer or who have another strong connection to Ferntree Gully. The program supports and connects young people of all abilities in a safe inclusive environment.
Our club members Jennifer and Netania joined this year to support the fortnightly program and saw firsthand this opportunity for young people to meet and build friendships, gain new skills, build confidence, and have fun.
The program is run fortnightly on a Friday night at the Carrington Park Leisure Centre in Knoxfield. It has been wonderful to be able to support young people who may be finding it tough. To be in a safe environment for even a few hours can often be a great help.
The program features a range of activities (sport, street dance, circus skills, arts and other activities), a healthy hot dinner and supper, personal development opportunities, and life-skills workshops run by social workers.
