What to do with a growing Bank Balance?
Does your Club have a large and growing bank balance? Is your Club looking for ways on how your funds can be put to good use? This was the predicament for the Rotary of Mordialloc recently. Although a small Club (17 members) it is very active in both the fund raising and project support and development areas. Faced with a growing bank balance the current Club President Jennifer Pudney put the proposal to the Board that every Club member be asked to identify a Rotary Program or registered charity to which the Club would donate $1000.
The proposal was supported by the Board and then in turn by the Club membership. During the month of October each member was asked to identify to whom they would have $1000 donated to. The recipient organizations/programs were:
- Wheel Chairs for Kids
- Hope Bereavement Care
- Salvation Army
- Disaster Aid Australia
- Australian Rotary Health
- Fred Hollows Foundation
- Rotarians Against Malaria
- Polio Eradication
- Days for Girls
- Sister Rotary Club in Nepal
- Berry Street Foundation.
The above approach was supported by the Board as it was felt that it:
- It got funds in the hands of organizations that could do good sooner rather than later.
- It promoted awareness among Club members about the activities of various Rotary programs and Charities.
- It promoted individual ownership amongst members on how Club funds were disbursed.
If your Club is in a similar situation, then the above initiative might worth considering.
