Last Saturday night saw the holding of the second Gala Night organised by the RC of Maroondah at the Karralyka Centre in Ringwood East.As last year, the primary recipient of the event is Easter Health and their provision of Mental Health support. Last year, $25k was raised and it is hoped this year will be even more successful with a target of $30k. There were some 220 people in attendance including Eastern Health staff, sponsors, Rotarians and other supporters.
Major sponsors were Eastland and Orion Developments.
A special guest was Samuel Johnson speaking, amongst many other things, about his wonderful charity, Love Your Sister. Entertainment was provided by Bradley Marshall and the MC was Kylie Knight-Brown who did a fantastic job.

Join us for the District 9815 Rotaract Changeover!
The Rotary Clubs of Emerald & District, Monbulk & District and Belgrave are hosting a free public information forum to discuss depression, anxiety and wellbeing issues affecting young people.
The Rotary Clubs of Ferntree Gully and Rowville-Lysterfield run a social inclusion program for 12–18-year-olds in Knox or who go to school, work, volunteer or who have another strong connection to Ferntree Gully. The program supports and connects young people of all abilities in a safe inclusive environment.
Deakin has countless unsung heroes who work tirelessly to strengthen our community. The Deakin Community Awards seek to celebrate these volunteers who give their time, skills and energy to community organisations, helping to make our local area a better place to live. The awards provide an opportunity to nominate an individual or community group that deserve recognition and our thanks for their significant contributions.
The Warrandyte Donvale Club held a Paul Harris birthday party on 16th April. Club members wore a variety of Rotary merchandise to enhance the evening.

RI President Gordon called into Melbourne on his way back from RICON and attended the special lunch at Cape Schanck on Sunday June 2nd and the Mental Health Awareness breakfast on the following morning at the Frankston Arts Centre.
From late May to early June, I was lucky enough to attend two Rotary/ Rotaract conferences in Singapore. One of these was the Rotary International Convention (RICON), running from the 26th - 29th of May, and the latter the Asia Pacific Regional Rotaract Convention (APRRC), running from the 1st to the 4th of June.

A total of 21 Rotarians and partners from District 9810 attended the Rotary International Convention in Singapore in late May. The Convention was held in the facility adjacent to the spectacular Marina Bay Sands Hotel. I understand there were a total of some 15,000 attendees. The main plenary sessions were held in one room within the convention centre which could "only" accomodate 7,000 or so. Consequently, the opening session was split into two groups.
